ATM conference SBS Talks 2013 - Review
On 10th and 11th June 2013 Salzburger Banken Software (SBS) invited to an international ATM conference in Salzburg. 160 participants from nine different countries, among them participants from Asia and Middle East, came to Salzburg to listen to the excellent presentations. Additionally in a small exhibition area some innovative self-service solutions were demonstrated: GRG Banking presented a so called Video Teller Machine and NCR presented a new sales terminal in a trendy layout. SBS introduced the first prototype of the NFC-extensions for the SBS self-service application KIXCustomer. With this extensions self-service transactions like printing of account statements can also be done with contactless cards in the near future.
The opening presentation of the conference was held by Flora Hamilton from ATMIA, an independent ATM industry association with more than 3000 members worldwide. The biggest ATM vendors presented trends and innovations influencing the ATM business in the following years. A very central topic was the interaction between mobile phones and the ATM. SBS presented some small projects too which have been initiated together with selected universities and schools in Salzburg to learn more about NFC (near field communication) and the user acceptance of this new technology.
Furthermore ATM operators with a long-standing relationship to SBS from Austria and Germany, like Payment Services Austria and FIDUCIA IT AG and the Sparkassen Informatikzentrum informed the audience about the new functionality they are currently engaged in. Fraunhofer Institute from Germany presented the latest findings about the user interaction with differnt types of self-service terminals and OeNB (the austrian national bank) demonstrated the latest counterfeits of Euro notes and statistics of their occurrence. Another presentation from SBS introduced the audience into the new archtecture and the new user interface of the SBS monitoring solution KIXOperator based on HTML5, which will extend the product with improved usability and additional power.
Finally Antonius Engberson an expert from the IBM research laboratories in Switzerland presented IBM's global technology outlook.
During the eventing event in the so called Kavalierhaus in Salzburg there was a great opportunity to celebrate the 25th anniversary of SBS. The feedbacks from the participants were excellent and many of them look forward to come back to Salzburg again.
